Mulan (2020) isn’t a bad movie if you’ll look at it as a stand alone Disney film. Adding the element of mysticism and having Mulan a little bit overpowered are some of the elements that I feel necessary to keep the story-telling intact. While the old Mulan (1998) gets her way though her wittiness, her antics aren’t always going to be applicable in the live version so it’s a reasonable trade off. There are some scenes that doesn’t really make sense though and one would be the scene when her gender was revealed but then again, it may have been done for the theatrics.
While this may not be the movie that will stick to your mind for the next few months or years just like other Disney movies, it’s something that may keep you entertained for an hour or two in a lazy day.
PS: Liu Yifei is cute and seeing IP Man in action is an added bonus 😅
